Event Highlights

Reducing the carbon footprint of building materials is a growing priority for owners, designers, and constructors seeking to deliver sustainable buildings and infrastructure. While all materials will require their own unique decarbonization approach, as the most widely used construction material, concrete represents one of the greatest opportunities to reduce project-related emissions. This webinar will provide practical guidance on specifying and procuring lower-carbon concrete products, with a focus on emerging carbon capture and utilization (CCU) technologies that permanently store carbon dioxide with concrete materials. Topics that will be covered during the webinar include:
• Understanding the carbon footprint of conventional concrete and the most effective pathways for emissions reduction
• Examining how leading green building certification programs (e.g., ZCB, LEED, Envision, etc.) recognize and reward low-carbon material selection
• Defining the roles of owners, architects, engineers, contractors, concrete suppliers, and sustainability consultants in delivering lower-carbon concrete
• Developing effective specification and procurement language
• Exploring tools and resources available to practitioners
• Reviewing procurement considerations and best practices of concrete materials made with CCU technologies

Learning Objectives

  • Identify practical strategies for reducing the embodied carbon of concrete products and materials.
  • Apply actionable strategies to successfully integrate lower-carbon concrete materials into procurement and specification approaches.
  • Understand how project partners can collaboratively deliver lower-carbon projects.
