Event Highlights

This CAGBC webinar is the third installment in a series showcasing the recipients of the 2026 Green Building Award Winners. Join us on August 26 to explore the story behind the 2026 Deep Retrofit Award-winning project, Hôtel de ville de Montréal.

In this session, Lianne Cockerton and Menaud Lapointe. will dive into how they decarbonized a 100-year-old heritage landmark where conventional retrofit strategies such as adding insulation, installing rooftop equipment, or implementing geothermal systems were not viable options.

Learn how the heritage conservation requirements shaped both the restoration strategy and the decarbonization approach, resulting in a project that successfully balances environmental performance with cultural stewardship.

About the Winning Project

The Deep Carbon Retrofit Award is presented to the team responsible for a deep carbon retrofit that demonstrates climate leadership through innovative carbon reduction strategies and optimal building performance.

This year's winning project, Hôtel de ville de Montréal features a heritage restoration and modernization of the interior spaces that are part of an ambitious initiative to decarbonize and modernize the municipal building portfolio.

The City of Montreal aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and seeks to make this project an example project that balances environmental performance. heritage preservation, and improved comfort and accessibility for citizens.
