DURATION: 1 hour
1 GBCI LEED BD+C-specific education hour
Building product manufacturers play a key role in projects seeking LEED v/v4.1 certification. By getting their products specified, product manufacturers are increasing their business and revenue opportunities, while contributing to healthier and more environmentally conscious buildings.
This session will highlight the key requirements for the product-specific Materials and Resources credits, as well as what manufacturers need to know to facilitate earning these credits.
LEED v4/v4.1 takes a life-cycle approach to building materials and encourages project teams to source products from manufacturers that provide full transparency of their products' environmental performance. With the changes introduced by LEED BD+C v4.1., achieving the Materials and Resources' product-specific credits has become even more achievable. Projects seeking LEED v4 certification can decide to upgrade certain credits to follow the v4.1 pathways.
Demonstrating a product's compliance to LEED standards can be a significant marketing tool. It is important for manufacturers to understand and effectively communicate how their products contribute towards LEED v4/v4.1 credits in order for those products to be considered for use and maximize their sales' potential.
This course will cover the challenges and key considerations for manufacturers who wish to participate in the green building industry through participation in LEED v4 and v4.1 projects specifically in relation to the BD+C Building Product Disclosure and Optimization (BPDO) and Low-Emitting Materials credits, and share some language that may prove useful when marketing your specified products to LEED project teams.
NOTE: This course is being recorded prior to LEED v4.1 being finalized, and certain items may change at that time. Addenda are issued quarterly from the USGBC.
This course is delivered by Marsha Gentile.
